they could be testing him out. that was my first guess based on the time.
it's not uncommon for platforms to place someone new in front of their audience for a limited amount of time to gauge the response before offering something more permanent/contracts, etc.
to see if his magic translates from youtube to their platform. if it does, great - come onboard more with us. if not, thanks for coming.

and im not sure about how they're paid from FOX SOul and who has control over the show behind the scenes so I won't speak to that.
