The Only BLACK Kalmyks

March 09, 2023, 08:16:22 PM #16 Last Edit: March 09, 2023, 08:17:22 PM by MUVA.
it kinda makes sense. i think.

we gotta remember back then it was all about buying albums.
singles were used to propel the album

IWBD def contributed to the sales of the debut but i can understand it not being quadruple platinum like i would assume it should be

i was a lil shocked when i first read this thread title but thats my way of makin sense of it

Project started: 2014 Wrapped up: 2024

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

Does digital include streams as well?

Because I feel like this should be triple or quadruple platinum.

Eh...

Quote from: Summertime on March 09, 2023, 03:11:34 PMSince Bran left Atlantic I think Ryan is struggling getting them to update everything. At least this got updated for its digital certification.  So many Starz be on him and Sonja about the certifications, but don't realize that only the labels can reach out to RIAA to audit & even then as in this case they'll only update the digital.

so how can they get an accurate amount? thats not really fair to only update digital.

Labels have to provide data from sales report & the sales system (music industry internal system) as well as the below to the RIAA:

Label Copies for all UPC's (Album requests) or ISRC's (Digital Single requests). Sometimes referred to as a 'one-sheet,' 'white sheet,' 'product report,' or 'product metadata,' a label copy is a report for every UPC/ISRC containing information about the album or track, such as: Artist, Title, Version Description (e.g.  Album, Radio Edit, Remix, Live, Acoustic, etc.), Product Number (UPC/ISRC), Runtime, Credits, etc.

That's why labels rarely update certs when an artist leaves or they'll only do certain albums or songs.  Ms. Sonja said in 2020 Bran's team was trying to get everything updated (Atlantic, Epic, RCA/Chameleon) so since there is only 1 digital cert after almost 3 years makes me think Ryan is struggling with the labels.

Digital includes streams, digital sales (iTunes, Amazon, etc..) & I believe YouTube views from an official video & I think official lyric video.

Yeah I remember her saying that awhile ago. It sucks its taking this long. You would think it's just a quick call to Atlantic or something but I guess not.

Though, I feel like someone, some time ago dropped the ball with the certs. Ain't no way that her last cert prior to "love again" was 2005 ish smh

Sheesh

TBIM gotta be a diamond single, I hope...

RAY7

Yea I think the label only printed a ceramic amount of CD singles back in the day and cassettes so after they sold out they probably just made everyone buy the whole album if they wanted to hear it or wait for radio to play it

On Spotify alone (not including Apple, etc.) TBIM has 175 million+ streams.

You need 150 million streams to have a platinum selling single.

And this all after iTunes days, etc.

After the application process I know some artists have stated the auditing process by RIAA is what really takes long. For example, 'Love Again' was eligible for 'Gold' in 2021, but the process wasn't finished until 2022. That only got updated bc his label applied & not eOne.

Also, 'Love Again' only had like 50 million Spotify streams when it was eligible for 'Gold' but the rest of the streams from other streaming sites and sales made up what was needed for 'Gold.' So Bran's non-Spotify #s could be really good.

No, her last was 'Love Again.' I don't think 2/11 album & singles will ever be updated bc of the whole Chameleon lawsuit. Maybe Ryan will eventually get Epic to update everything for 'Human' & maybe Atlantic will eventually following through on his requests for everything updated. Or maybe they threw him 1 digital certification update & that's all it's going to be  :hmph:
