@ivorian oph !!! THAT'S the way I see it too. BET could've been given rock a nice 50th or 75th anniversary tribute with a montage of how it all started too. But they would nominate Adele and have Madonna on 106 & Park.
IDK, Robyn's Back!!!🥂

not "whitewashed", but rocker .

what he's given is not exactly gift wrapped for BET

hate to say this but is he surprised?

this the thing

BET is described at being geared towards black CULTURE, which is not just hip hop & r&b

I kinda touched on this by showing data that black Americans enjoy hip-hop, R&b and gospel more than other genres ... by a long shot

I stress the word data to say this is not my opinion

It is statistical fact that genres like rock are enjoyed by only a small portion of black people . The data suggests that they are not a significant part of african-American culture.

So yes, considering the data, BET is catering to what its audience enjoys most

They are "catering to the culture" .

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

And honestly these arguments of "we created that genre!" Should go to the networks and shows that largely exclude us from their platforms , so THEY can acknowledge our contributions to the genre and so THEY can begin to include and consider the small number of  black artists and listeners who partake in what is now a predominately white genre .

Let's not put everything on the networks that actually include us already

yea i wasn't talking about data. i was talking about the REALITY. and the reality is, black culture encompasses .ore than just hip hop, r&b, and gospel. and their "catering to the culture" hasn't lead to results. so why NOT tap into other aspects of black culture, while expanding your audience and blazing a bit of a trail in the process

this is classic misdirection bby. we're not talking about "them" right now. we're taking about US and OUR platforms.

"they" are a separate discussion.

and the networks that "include us", do not include us in ALL forms. that's the whole point of the topic hun.

well data speaks to reality.

it reflects reality. as in, when u walk into most african-american households you will hear exactly what the data says.

and it reflects the reality that very few black people are fans of rock music. certainly not enough for a black award show to consider.

does that not make sense?

It makes perfect sense Afro you know homeboy has to be argumentative

NEW MOON

Let's be honest...more black people would watch BET if it weren't catering strictly to urban culture and incorporated other facets that aren't mainstream.

The data is derived from what consistently circulates in the market. So there are no variables. If there were increased visibility for black rock, country, and alternative artists, the resulting analytics would exhibit variations. Its current representation stands at 7% due to its lack of promotion and visibility. The investment would be a risk but there can be no accurate assessment to gauge what is a true reflection without that risk.

it doesn't reflect the reality that I'M referring to.

and again, that data-based "reality" isnt translating to ratings. so what "reality" does it really reflect.

so again, if your ratings are tanking, that's all the more reason to extend your reach to different pockets of the black audience.
