Jay is considered one of the best rappers of all time let's not get carried away here

Kalifornia.

I actually think it was Jay that lifted Bey's profile when they got together. He was the bigger star at the time.

RAY7

Bey was a pop culture phenomenon when the 2 of them got together
Jay had been out longer, none of his albums sold like TWOTW and his only #1 hit was Heartbreaker rmx with Mariah. Don't really see him as a "STAR" at that point

Kalifornia.

Bey didn't become a pop culture phenom until she went solo. She was popular while in DC, but she wasn't yet THAT girl like that.

RAY7

The Writings on the Wall sold 8 Million in the US
Destiny's Child had Barbie dolls, performed on the Grammys, had SNL and Mad tv parodies, had the TRL tour
They were everywhere

I actually don't think they give the Carters awards for them to show up. They are just the token Black artists that the committee votes in to win all the Black categories, the fact that they never win the general field awards shows that they don't really have PULL with the Grammys like we think they do. Jay went 0 for 8 in nominations for his 4:44 album
hey boo

Ja rules tour was canceled

They definitely did but Bey has kept him relevant post what, 2006?

L0NZ.

Visually maybe.  Jay has kept her relevant too. He is a powerful man in the industry. He can put her in positions. All she has to do is literally work/perform. She'd tell you herself how much of a voice and influence he has over her life. Like someone said, it's symbiotic.

Exactly. Sis would've went solo much sooner if that were the case.
