Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

Tyla has beautiful Brown skin and although her hair is somewhat wavy/curly , it's still POOFY and beautifully voluminous like all folks who got the motherland in our veins.

😍😍

I see the Africa in her. I see a few things in her. And that's beautiful.

She's a beautiful girl with multi ethnic heritage and if she wants to celebrate her blackness that's fine or everything else , that's fine.

Long as she's not hurting nobody and keeping it cute .

Her sisters appear more visibly black than her

Her and her brother look more "mixed"

Barbie Dangerous

We've already agreed that she's mixed and so does she, that's not the argument. The point is how she said what she said but she's now backpedaling bc she's taking advantage of black people's eagerness to force someone into their community.

Quote from: Cowgirl on June 14, 2024, 06:33:12 AMIt's actually completely different from the Creole conversation. Beyonce has always said that she was black, mentioning her Creole background doesn't take away from that. Tyla is majority South Asian but trying to capitalize off of the black American market.
"Coloured" does not mean "majority South Asian".

it's a mixture of multiple racial backgrounds in varying degrees
I'm aware. Never said being "coloured" meant South Asian. I'm saying SHE is majority South Asian.

people are going by how she looks.

her PHENOTYPE.

There are a lot of mixed people who end up looking very "Indian" - even those with no actual Indian mixture.

there are people who are assumed to be half/half mixed when they arent.

There are people like Rashida Jones who play roles of White women cuz she passes as a whole White woman to many, even though she has a Black father.

go by the history, not phenotype.
We can SEE Rashida's black parent, right?
Now if Rashida had a child and that child said "im of mixed ancestry....my mothers half Black" and showed people Rashida's picture

they'd say "are u sure boo? that look like a white woman  "

thats what ur doing to Tyla now. questioning and redefining her identity

She's mixed and SAID that she's mixed.
i think shes mixed too. so what's the argument here?

sfnsjfnjsfnsjnfjnsfjsj

Coloured people are multi-racial by ancestry, and it's reflected in their phenotype.
shes of mixed heritage and she looks it.

i don't think she's a "Black woman".

The issue is how she's trying to essentially cosplay as black simply to build her fanbase.
i see her representing South African-ness, Coloured-ness, and everything else she actually is.

not sitting somewhere claiming she grew up in Compton

nothing about her offends me.

I'm offended
Not sure why but it feels like I should be
