Yea, no thank you Tyler. All she had to say is what they consider coloured where she's from, really not that deep.

I kinda see why they told her to hush.

We're so used to wanting things put in neat , clear boxes when it comes to race and ethnicity in America

And here you have a group of people called "coloureds" which sounds similar to the name pushed on Black Americans following slavery

But not only that, it's a group of people with multi-layered ancestry from multiple groups - Africa, Asia, Europe, etc

It's just too loaded for Tyla to tackle IMO. cuz either people are gonna say "bitch u just black like me.. nothing special" or they'll say "you're not Black and stop saying coloured cuz it's racist "

No matter how much she explains , many people will not understand what she's saying. And many of them won't be trying to understand either . At all.

She did the right thing by turning around for advisement before proceeding to answer and ultimately dig herself deeper.

Significant Discovery: First known Black American family of Kalmyk descent

Takeaways: Be prepared to pivot, even when you think you're on the right track. Be OK with being wrong so you can get things right.

Kalmyks are tribal Mongolic people who settled in Russia. It's estimated that only 300,000 Kalmyk descendants exist worldwide - with only 3,000 in America.

That's ALL she had to say and explain in a cute and fun way....not have miss thang in the background going off with an attitude
I'm bossy/I'm the first girl to scream on a track

Gilgamesh.

Yeah but the optics of a light skin, clearly not (fully) BLACK girl, in a BLACK space, turning her head and refusing to discuss race...it made the situation worse.

She's already tried to explain this stuff .

I've seen it

It didn't help, it was actually counterproductive .

People who are committed to not understanding something will not understand it .

I see people dragging her calling her a lil dirty Indian boy and all this other stuff . Completely other-ing her out of Blackness and degrading her.

And on the other side of the fence , people saying she's "just Black" but doesn't like being Black cuz she acknowledges her multi ethnic heritage. As if it's a figment of her imagination and not real.

If these are the people she has to rationalize with, good luck.

Please show me.
we were talking about it on the board

there was an article that people were ripping to shreds on social media.

i think her team has learned the hard way that less is more with this topic.
hush. 🤫

it's not like she dodged a question about anti-Black comments she made or something
that to me would be offensive...like sis explain yourself. why did u even make the comments to begin with?

but shes not out here hurting anyone. or being malicious or messy.

she's just dodging getting thrown back down a rabbit hole of mess.

She's Black/African, among a few other things. Anyone with access to the internet can research what "Coloured" is and what it means.

Period.
She's already said she's Coloured.

by default, Coloured is multi-ethnic.

African, Asian and European.

Am I missing something? There's no secret here.

it's like fas, who acknowledges and celebrates her Creole ancestry.

she even has a song about it....which details how Creole is a mixture of things.

but of course if someone sat her down and asked her in an interview:

"so fas, what separates you from other Black girls as a Creole ? Tell me , in detail lolz :woohoo:
i have no clue what Creole is! lol!!! "

she'd shut that shit down cuz she KNOWS it would be used for mess. it would start a firestorm on twitter as soon as she took the bait...

and she would know the person who asked her this was playing stupid ....

as its common knowledge that being of ethnic Creole descent typically means there's relatively unusual multi-generational mixing involved.
