What I don't understand when this topic comes up, is why people act like associating this title to Brandy is a knock or "diss" to other singers. They be like "You call Brandy the 'vocal bible' when Whitney, Mariah, Aretha, etc...are right there!" I don't get that.

Eh, I guess I can see this angle even though I don't necessarily agree. I actually think Whitney's title "The Voice" is closer to that than anything. Interestingly, she has also said that title felt overwhelming for her at one time.

Well the interpretation is off, because God himself is the end all be all. The Bible is simply a document for studying the word. That's it!

If they called her The Vocal God/Jesus that would be more understandable

no it doesn't. The Bible isn't an authority. That's like saying a dictionary or thesaurus is an authority. It's reference material specifically for Christians, like Brandy's voice and music is reference material for singers.

I mean I understand how ppl can object to giving any type of vocal title to a person they don't rate that highly but
whether or not some ppl agree. The large majority of R&B singers and even some Gospel and Pop singers are going to study Brandy's music and call her their Vocal Bible

yall need to realize what constitutes as the "vocal bible" is SUBJECTIVE. some ppl think it revolves around belting, some ppl think it revolves around voice control. NO ONE is "right". so if she think bran aint the vocal bible, LET HER. vvcvvv its all subjective. get over it bbys.

Brandy was given her title for a reason, and dismissing it because she isn't a belter shows a lack of understanding. Critics who do this are simply jumping on the bandwagon of hate. If people knew the original intention behind her title, there would be no confusion or misinterpretation.

People are allowed to disagree and have an opinion...but to have an opinion based on an assumption of what you THINK the title means and not knowing what it was intended to mean is silly.

If someone wants to say she's not The Vocal Bible because her vocal style isn't the most intricate or nuanced, that I would accept (even if I disagree) because at least you have some understanding as to what the title represents. But saying she isn't because she's not a belter just shows how the term just completely goes over their heads and they equate belting to being supreme because they are casual listeners who don't know music.

There is no point in people having their own criteria for what a Vocal Bible is because they term never even existed before it was coined for Brandy. People just need to get tf over it.

Who said I'm mad? I'm just saying it like it is. It's silly to discredit something when you don't even know what it means. They are allowed to do it though. But I'm still allowed to have an opinion that they are ignorant for making assumptions. The term wasn't broad. It was very specific. People have made it broad with their assumptions.

Like I said, it's one thing to disagree if you actually understand why she was given the title and don't feel she lives up to that. People are just saying she isn't without knowing why it was given to her.

Let them fume, I defend the title now and then. People love to hate Brandy. It's not really just about the title let's be real. I've seen comments say I don't like Brandy because Moesha was stuck up and a bad friend. Like huh? Lol. So anything  worth given Brandy praise for makes the GURLZ real mad and I honestly love it. Make her trend AS ALWAYS and let it be known who's being called the vocal Bible. Let the newbies get into her as her streaming numbers increase by the week consistently.

The Bible is more of a guide if anything. It's been misconstrued to be an authority but that's another topic for another day
