Tyrese has more celebrity than many people because he has starred in two major movie franchises. This reminds me of when Tank said Ginuwine was the biggest music act out of them. Celebrity can often make someone's music career appear bigger than it actually is, like him and Jennifer Hudson is another example.

Monica opened for Xscape on their previous tour. Social media and reality TV have given Xscape a relevancy that allowed them to tour, but Monica is a much bigger recording artist. There's many cases of this and also cases of acts opening for someone and THEN becoming bigger than them.

It was very brief and minor. I think he only got the commercial marketing because his coke cola commercial and movies.
