very interesting take. i don't think that quite answers my question, but i'll take what i can from it if you feel that it does. what i think it boils down to is what we see all the time. fans tend to not hold their favorite celebrities accountable, often resorting to minimization, normalization, what-aboutsim, and other similar deflection tactics. it's not unique, but to see it on this scale with this particular subject matter is just jarring.
