But Even people with advanced dementia have moments where they appear very lucid and still show signs of their personality . Can even recall past events and seem very present .
Then, suddenly flip into someone unrecognizable at a moments notice, and recognize no one around them .
Things like "Sundowning" are a thing .
Maybe Wendy is actually OK - that's a possibility. But just saying there's complexities to these conditions that should be considered
Right but let her have those moments with her family, not some random ass lawyer.
we tend to assume that family is the best to handle things
But we have to remember that not all families are built the same . Not all people are built the same. I'd even go as far to say that sometimes families can purposely downplay the severity of things, just so they can gain control of a situation - which ultimately gives them unlimited access to their sick relative's finances.
People, yes even family members, can get very dirty when they know a lot of money is involved.
Once someone has been medically determined unfit to make certain decisions via diagnosis of something as serious as dementia (by a doctor - not a Twitter user), that really should be the final say.
There's only so much back and forth you can do with an official medical diagnosis. We can all offer our unsolicited, unprofessional opinions but that's all they are.
I saw that "where's Wendy" documentary they made following her around and I couldn't even finish it because it was that bad. I didn't even think THAT should've been released - as i feel it was grossly exploitative, and she didn't even appear present enough to consent to such a thing....but her "family!" allowed and supported it.
