Amerie is barely singing on the 1 Thing studio version

It's like this somewhat melodic, scratchy yell through the song

I think it's a song that would be hell for anyone to sing live . Even the background vocals were kinda weird

It's what made the song different / stand out , but not every song translates well live . Especially if the artist dares to leave all microphones on

Honestly this live version sounds like I'd expect it to , background singers included

It's not an easy song to sing live because of what you mentioned about it not necessary her "singing" but it should've been keyed differently, especially for the intimate Tiny Desk setting. I thought the background singers did the best with what they could but people were expecting them to save Amerie..

No one said amerie is a GREAT singer but she can sing, DEFINITELY.  Anyone with an EAR can hear that she sounds like herself and has the ability to sing. If u don't like how she sings in general that's one story but amerie isn't someone who sounds VASTLY different from her recordings

Beyoncé had already sold MILLIONS by the time Cantmerie came around.

Not to mention, it wasn't her sound at all. It was Rich Harrison's sound.
