like many African-Americans who have ties to Western European countries that colonized America (UK, France, Ireland, etc)

i've seen people argue whether Black Americans should be "proud" of that type of lineage or "claim" it since much of it can be tied back to male slaveowners who had inappropriate "relations" with their slaves, but I say leave it up to the individual. if Dominicans and Puerto Ricans out here claiming their Spanish ancestors and calling themselves "Spanish", let Black Americans claim their Irish and French and English ancestors in peace.
