Artistic personality comes through music as well. Videos. etc.
Michael was damn near MUTE outside of the studio and stage, and had one of the biggest presences known to man.

BEyonce's personality as an artist is VERY strong as well.

So to say Adele is outselling other artists because she's hopping around with a dumb prop in her hand is ludicrous.

!!! Personality does help but it's not the main factor at all. A lot of Adele fans don't even know she has a goofy side. A lot of her fans don't even know how to use a computer.

I hear you luv, but my comprehension skills are up to par. The topic of the thread says "And THIS is why Adele...", not "And THIS is one of the reasons why Adele...". A statement like that suggests one thing luv. But once again, I see what ur trying to say. Either way, it's a stretch to say her personality is the reason she is outselling everyone's faves. There are many artists who have more personality than Adele that ain't selling more.

I don't understand the idea of an artist needing to have a personality in order to enjoy their music.

You can be as dull as a fuckin doorknob, if I can emotionally connect to your music...that's all I need from you tbh.

When people don't have a personal connection with an artist, people illegally download their shit.

When someone likes an artist is when they stan, go to concerts, buy merch, demand them on late night shows, do radio campaigns, etc. making them more successful.

If that were honestly true, most popular artists would be matching Adele's numbers 

People will support if the music is good.

iono, I think its because Adele hit so MANY demographics with her shit. I think another big part of why she sells so well is because she hit that mom/dad/grandma/grandpa demographic so hard. Old people arent with this downloading shit. They still go out and purchase your music if they really like u. That's why Barbara Streisand and Michael Mcdonald and Tony Bennett release cds and they still getting platinum certs.

This is true too. It depends on what KINDA personality u have. Im not gon lie, Brandy has turned me off a time or two. There are some whose personality really brought it home for me tho. Adele is someone I definitely liked even more once I saw the kinda person she was. I didnt give that bitch the time of day initially because  I just knew she had a boring ass personality to go right along with those boring ass albums. She yanked me in every aspect this go round. I even tried to buy concert tkts and I woulda NEVER thought. cause if u mentioned Adull to me last yr I woulda definitely hit u with

But then I look at people like K. Michelle and Tamar, who the stars of their reality shows and barely had a career before their shows, but are now seeing moderate success due to those shows. Did the people buy into their personalities (even though most people here doesn't really like neither one) or was it the music.

And Omarion was struggling to have a hit record but after doing Love & Hip Hop, he got one of the biggest songs of his career. Would he have gotten that hit if he didn't show his personality on reality tv? So I don't know.
