QuoteAlong with getting a physical or going to the dentist, an HIV test is an annual part of good health care. However, according to a new study published in Pediatrics, only about 33% of young adults aged 18-24 have ever been tested for the virus. Though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends HIV testing for anyone over the age of 13, only about 25% of teens reported undergoing an HIV test.

Broken down by race and gender, the number of young people tested varies wildly. The groups with the highest rates among young adults were black men (45.3%) and black women (59.9%), as well as Latina women (46.5%). White male young adults were the least likely to be tested, with a 22.8% testing rate.

That's why, in that other thread, I'm all for the FACTS and mess

But I'm not here for the constant black smear campaign

Not saying the disease isn't rampant though, so either way, wrap it up girls.

Your white kings just aren't even HITTING the fcking clinic for them to know the REAL #'s

I LOVE YOU FOR THIS.
This is definitely a factor.

I refuse to participate in the 'black vs. white' HIV issue debate because HIV is a HUMAN issue, not a race issue, but these statistical findings are very interesting.  :ohwow:

Yeah, I'm not trying to make it like that

But for THIS board in particular, I needed it posted.

It's not about a "black smear campaign".

I'm black myself and know that we are always at higher risk of MANY things because of the hurdles and obstacles we face in our communities that others do not have to face. Which doesn't stop at HIV. Also includes employment, etc. IS that a smear campaign as well, to say that many of us are unemployed, more than other races? It's the truth, but it's not to say that we are weak, or lazy or any of that. It's proof of the fact that we face more than other races in this country.

Don't be blind to the facts. This is a reason why many of us are out here getting sick.

They've been constantly trying to make us the face of everything negative

I'm not here for that. I do realize facts are facts though. I believe the statistics.

!!

Only 1/5 of those things my age have hit the clinic

I see why theres so many OTHER diseases outside of HIV that are running rampant amongst young folks

They're not being tested for ANYTHING

Ya'll are more concerned with how this make this looks than how it affects you. If we're really concerned about being the face of things that are negative so much, let's petition for Love & Hip Hop to be canceled. Let's truly position ourselves to be the race that doesn't have to go through anything at all. That's what is most important. How people view us. Forget about taking the reports seriously, they're just trying to make us look bad.

I'm done with this conversation. Like ugh

I haven't even expressed my personal feelings on what I think of the research and release of stats and what I think of it outside of the board.

I said I wanted it posted on THIS board for a reason. Simple.
