I've been kinda hard on Brandy lately, but I will say THIS... (Long Post)
She has spoken in the past about having her confidence back but it was never believable to me. I felt like she did a lot of talking with not much action, which is why I haven't been going up as hard this time around. I'm just waiting to SEE instead of hear. I love Brandy to death, but I'm just being honest.
HOWEVER, I'm starting to really believe that the confidence she has now is real. I seriously doubt Brandy of the past would go into a studio or hop onstage with beasts like Jazzy & Fanny. Not the Brandy who would dodge big notes in songs when performing live, or the Brandy who would never sing on the spot, or the Brandy that would SANG DOWNE in the bathroom only to get on stage and give us a subdued vocal, still beautiful, but no where near the bathroom slayage. I used to get so frustrated with her because I knew she was capable of so much more.
Lowkey, I think that's why we never got a live performance of "I Thought". No shade.
The fact that she put out a song like "B&P" and can't wait to perform it live tells me that she has FINALLY tapped into that confidence and really sees how great she is. Like, I'm legit excited to hear the music from this era. I can't wait to see the direction she takes musically after all this newly found sense of self.
