They're few artist who are blessed to be both (MJ, Prince, Janet, Madonna, Cece). Some are only icons (Britney, Cher, Diana Ross), and others are only legends (Whitney, Mariah, Celine).

Beyonce will be both, Rhianna will be iconic, and Adele will be a legend.
