I actually agree, but this only works for certain artists.

I honestly think Janet should have just released her album instead of taking the traditional approach with a fist single.
She had so much anticipation that it would have really worked I believe. She should have done a big performance on
a major award show and then just dropped the album that night or the next day while people were talking.

from her last album, i feel like beyonce isn't in competition with the Hot 100 anymore.
she doesn't even fully release singles anymore
just visual songs and punches on
IMO, it takes away the expectation or the public waiting to find out her numbers, etc.
It's a smart move

I think 4 era just made her frustrated with all the industry mess on the business side, with the label etc...
It's horrible how record labels derail an artists career over mess the artist has no control over.
