Just to put it into perspective a BIT for the gorls who will scream "expected" 

New albums are usually released on Friday morning, as that is the beginning of the charting week. Artists want as much time as possible to accumulate the greatest number of sales and streams they can, and even a day here or there can make a huge difference. First week charting positions and sales figures are very important to most people in the industry, and even the biggest names sometimes have a hard time moving an impressive number of copies in their first seven days out of the gate.


Lemonade wasn?t released until late Saturday night, which means that Bey lost almost two full days where she could have been racking up sales and streams. To make up for that time, she?ll need her fans to buy tens of thousands of copies and stream like crazy by Thursday night for the title to peak at number one.

Another potential problem here is the cost of the album. Most records are priced in a way that incentivizes people to buy, but owning a copy of Lemonade comes at a premium. The title is on sale on both Tidal and iTunes for $17.99, which is much more than records go for these days. That price tag may turn fans off, and her final sales count could be hurt by it.


The songs are all available separately, but purchasing the collection without the film only saves a dollar or two. It?s tough to argue that Lemonade, which is a full album and movie, isn?t worth the price, but getting people to buy copies these days is tough enough as it is, even at discount prices.
