The 1990s? greatest legacy, apart from JNCO jeans and choker necklaces, might be the proliferation of cult-classic children?s movies that blended animation and live action to corny perfection. The paragon of the post-Who Framed Roger Rabbit decade is certainly Space Jam, which remains a nostalgic favorite in the hearts of many 90s babies. Rumors began last summer that a sequel could be in the works, and now, The Hollywood Reporter has given us reason to be even more intrigued, reporting that Justin Lin, who helmed several Fast & Furious movies and most recently the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, is in talks to direct the sequel?which will, as many hoped, star LeBron James.

The 90s gave us Casper, The Mask, Inspector Gadget, James and the Giant Peach, and Stuart Little. But for Space Jam fans, the Michael Jordan-helmed comedy towers over all of those?literally. It was the perfect intersection of basketball legend, goofy Looney Tunes animation, kid-friendly hip-hop, and R. Kelly. When audiences flooded to Amy Schumer and Judd Apatow?s Trainwreck last July, many quickly noticed LeBron James?s knack for comedy, making rumors that he could be following Jordan?s footsteps into the Space Jam universe even more enticing.

Obviously we?re still a long way out from the finished product, but the hit potential seems high. Space Jam raked in $230.4 million worldwide, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and given the success of other beloved 90s movies and franchises?as well as the combined draw James and Lin will bring to the project?things are looking good. Let?s just hope they don?t change anything about that flawless theme song?or, at the very least, that they don?t put the cover in the wrong hands.
