"Umm why are you posting this?":udontlookok:

I'm making this post as my way of contributing to the combat against ignorance when it comes to people of Haitian descent. Just to show that people of Haitian descent come in all different colors, shades, looks, hair textures, etc.

I was inspired to do this because during a conversation I had with my cousin (our grandmothers are sisters), she was sooo excited to learn about what I found about our history until she heard "Haiti". The excitement clearly died down and I could tell that she wasn't able to align with the truth. I think it's because some people think every person of Haitian descent looks like Wyclef Jean. And my cousin looks nothing like him. On top of that, it's not "cool" to be Haitian where we're from in NYC. As ignorant as it is, I could understand her disconnection and disbelief. Honestly it's the same way I felt when people on here said I reminded them of their Haitian friends.  So here we are.

Some posted here are "fully Haitian", while others are like myself and simply have a generous portion of their ancestry tied to Haiti. But every person I am posting here has openly and proudly declared their ancestral association with the island.

Usher's father is Haitian
Dawn is also half
for some reason people aren't proud to claim Haiti due to ignorance from other people, but it's such a rich country in terms of history and culture.
