I saw pics of a plantation my ancestors worked on and I was really amazed. Just to know they were there. Luckily, it is now a historic site so I can visit without sitting down for dinner with a bunch of crackers. But it was haunting to see inside of the house, especially since it's been kept in its original condition (no remodeling)

That's a great point. Its part of our history that we should most certainly never forget.
