FUCK Bey

Sddddddddddddddddd

In the beginning stages of slavery, it was actually the Spaniards that taught us Christianity. They offered the slaves freedom and protection, but they had to covert to Christianity. Florida, along with Cuba of course, were initially Spanish territory and therefore "safe zones" for escaped slaves. When the white man found out, they kinda said "no DEAL" and cleaned house a bit. I'm sure when the slaves were SHIPPED back to the plantations, they spread the gospel too. I also feel like blacks for the most part kinda improvised and made Christianity into what they wanted it to be, as we can clearly see from today. It makes sense though, if they couldn't read..

with this idea, do you think your ancestors are in hell?
The ones that practiced their own faith before Christianity you practice was brought into Africa?
actually no, I don't even think of Drais as really hell bound
apparently no one is anywhere until judgement day
and God is a forgiving God

I'm sorry but... somebody I talk to says this and I wanna STRANGLE him :dead:

You believe an all-knowing God has been using the Earth as a Barbie playhouse to see if we'll do what he wants? :dead:

oh but I forget, he's ALL-KNOWING.

So when does the forgiveness come? After he tosses me into the pit. Which he KNEW he was gonna do before he made me?

Oh but don't remind me of the CHOICE to be saved... So we do have some faux sense of power according to Christianity.

So living life on a hamster wheel is fine, never exploring the possibilities.

Science is sin, being born retarded is a sin, being born gay is a sin, questioning the religious structure is wrong?

Cause God is a jealous God right?
But isn't insecurity an earthbound emotion?

I never said I'm a devout, Bible thumping Christian
I am a Christian though, and not just because White Europeans were

I actually have experienced things that I believe in my heart
are because of Christ

I respect this.

I've felt the same thing. I think all humans can reach a period of enlightenment, Christians attribute that to Christ, other religions to other dieties.

I think by brainwashed they just mean how ingrained it is in a persons mind.

Like did you find Christ in adulthood or were you raised in the Church like me?

its kind of a mix for me
my immediate family has always been kinda lazy Christians
we went to church and read the bible once in a while
There were periods when we went to church a lot and then periods we never went
However we always kept the faith and considered ourselves Christian
However I went to a Jesuit College
took religion courses in more than just Christianity
and as an adult I really have decided that Christianity resonates with me
I got baptized this January

The Arabs did it to Africans during the Arab slave trade with Islam, and the Europeans to Africans during the European Slave trade.
Most slaves began to educate themselves through the bible, they learnt how to write and speak by studying it.
Not saying that every single slave was forced into Christianity, but most of them were, generations after that were BORN into Christianity and never rebelled against it or questioned it because it's the only thing they knew. Some slaves willingly accepted it but also aligned it against their own traditional values, because some of the traditions in African Vodun, spirituality is quite similar to Christianity.

QuoteHistorical records show that Islam and Christianity played an important role in enslavement in Africa. The Arab-controlled Trans-Saharan slave trade helped to institutionalise slave trading on the continent. And during the 'age of expedition', European Christians witnessed caravans loaded with Africans en-route to the Middle East. Others arriving much later in West Africa observed slavery in African societies, leading them to assume that African enslavement was intrinsic to the continent.

For many of these early European explorers, the Bible was not only regarded as infallible, it was also their primary reference tool and those looking for answers to explain differences in ethnicity, culture, and slavery, found them in Genesis 9: 24-27, which appeared to suggest that it was all a result of 'sin'.

In the Genesis passage, Africans were said to be the descendants of Ham, the son of Noah, who was cursed by his father after looking at his naked form. Moreover, in Genesis 10, the 'Table of Nations' describes the origins of the different 'races' and reveals that one of the descendants of Ham is 'Cush' - Cush and the 'Cushites' were people associated with the Nile region of North Africa.

In time, the connection Europeans made between sin, slavery, skin colour and beliefs would condemn Africans. In the Bible, physical or spiritual slavery is often a consequence of sinful actions, while darkness is associated with evil. Moreover, the Africans were subsequently considered 'heathens' bereft of Christianity, although scholars now suggest that Christianity reached Africa as early as the early 2nd century AD and that the Christian communities in North Africa were among the first in the world. However, Europeans doubtlessly refused to acknowledge the relevance of African Christianity as it appeared irreconcilable with the continent's cultural surroundings.

QuoteReligion was also a driving force during slavery in the Americas. Once they arrived at their new locales the enslaved Africans were subjected to various processes to make them more compliant, and Christianity formed part of this. Ironically, although the assertion of evangelisation was one of the justifications for enslaving Africans, very little missionary work actually took place during the early years. In short, religion got in the way of a moneymaking venture by taking Africans away from their work. It also taught them potentially subversive ideas and made it hard to justify the cruel mistreatment of fellow Christians.

However, some clergy tried to push the idea that it was possible to be a 'good slave and Christian' and pointed to St Paul's epistles, which called for slaves to 'obey their masters', and St Peter's letters (1 Peter 2: 18-25), which appeared to suggest that it was wholly commendable for Christian slaves to suffer at the hands of cruel masters.

gtt Ray its kinda of a well known fact that religion, specifically Christianity was used to make slaves more compliant
why do you think they never wanted them to learn how to read and write?
An educated slave is a dangerous slave
that is different though
them just telling us to recite prayers and scripture to calm down

who said they were just made to "recite prayers and scriptures"?
It's more than just relaying a few words back and forth
It's about WHATS in those specif prayers and scriptures, the intent behind it and what actions come from it.
Words are a powerful tool, it can be used to enlighten the mind, or to dumb it down, in this case it was used as the latter
ok but that's not my argument and that's why you edited
they wanted to dumb us down
but they didn't want us to be "Christian" that's my point
that goes against what Azealia is saying

Black ppl being Christian today is from education and experience
we're not just mindless sheep anymore and still the Black church is stable

ggg. Absolutely not.

This gor doesn't believe slaveowners made their slaves worship their God, but believes that there are billions of ghosts wandering around waiting to be lined up and one by one let into some pearly gates or flung back trough the earths core to hell.
