Young

It's a form of discipline like anything else.

Doesn't have to be an option but nothing wrong with it.

Kids will do what they want regardless if they choose to

The key word was "choose" to.

Actions still need consequences if they are not conducive for the child.

Certain consequences remind children what actions will warrant such.
Common sense Hun.

I don't agree because that then opens the flood gates for all kinds of "abuse" labeling.

Calling "time out"  as mental abuse
Forms of punishment such as taking privileges as emotional abuse.

Abuse is just that. When the act is being used for the hell of it without any real reason.

Physically disciplining your child does not automatically equal abuse.
If you touch an iron while it's hot it'll burn you.
You learn not to touch it or at least know if you do it again this is what will happen.
Correct forms of discipline is the same way.

never understood parents that wanted to instill fear in their child. Like, unless you raisin' Jason Voorhees and the kid is messin' up all over the place, there's no purpose for it. So many people have no business parenting children.

FINE.

I honestly feel like people spank to let out frustrations n

Then try to label it with "oh! Just doing the best for u!"

Hun, u were pissed and wanted to hit me. Nothing more nothing less

Thank god I'm an adult now

Young

Even animals lash out At their children for stepping out of line.

Doesn't have to be a 2 minute LASHING session but it's just a form of parenting....when done right.
I've seen it used totally wrong and do more harm than good.
