Gaga?s making all kinds of headlines for her new song ?Perfect Illusion,? but it all comes full circle today with ?Freakshow,? a track left on the cutting room floor from 2008?s The Fame era. Curiously, the song first appeared in a trailer advertising Gaga?s old friend and former DJ Brendan Jay Sullivan?s book Rivington Was Ours: Lady Gaga, the Lower East Side, and the Prime of Our Lives.

A synopsis from his literature on Amazon describes the literature as an ?intimate portrait of the budding star who would soon catapult to fame and fortune? and ?both a love letter to New York and a glimpse behind the veil of one of the biggest musical icons of her generation.?

?Freakshow? is a nostalgic throwback to some of the best cuts off Gaga?s debut album, but reminds us how far the pop star has come since ?Just Dance.? ?Perfect Illusion? doesn?t utilize any vocal editing or fancy production gymnastics to entice the listeners. It?s mostly Gaga singing freely, and there?s something admirable about it all.
