"Angelina Jolie Pitt has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time," Jolie's attorney told PEOPLE.

In a statement to PEOPLE Pitt said, "I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time."

"They always had disagreements when it came to disciplining the kids," according to the source. "With all the kids, it did tend to get chaotic many times."

The New York Post reported that Jolie had hired "a private eye" to spy on them. "She felt that he was fooling around with [Cotillard] on the set, and it turns out, he was. And that was the final straw," the paper reported.

However, a source told PEOPLE that the pair's breakup has nothing to do with Cotillard and denied the comments reported by The Post.
