I chocked it up to souther ignorance. I mean you have people down there talking about their great grandparent having light skin. so this must mean they're mixed or something. like.... but to come back up north and have people trying to speak spanish to me. i'm like OK maybe it just wasn't southern ignorance. it got to the point where i reached out to Baph in privacy a few weeks back to share my experience and ask some serious questions. it turns out that its not just my hair people are looking at and saying "oh! curly hair! Dominican! Somali!" its my overall FEATURES. that are leading some people to believe this. bone structure, etc. then they mention my hair as a SECONDARY hint. that makes a lot more sense to me. Because Ive seen plenty of clearly AA people with light skin or curly hair and I never jumped to the conclusion they're mixed or even not 100% AA. thats ignorant as fuck to me. and backwards.
