Yawl be so petty

It's no secret when you see someone with curly / silkier hair the automatic thought w/ most people Is that that person is mixed with something.
This is not my thought, and its ignorant. Thinking this is why yo ass thought rasheeda was anything other than blk. And altho she insisted she was blk, y'all sat in a thread saying she HAD to be mixed. My black ass has hair like that so to me, it's not some MIXED thing, nor is it special

Ssssssssssss

Her FACE features and hair made me think she has something down the line.

I ignorantly assumed she was mixed
I admit that; but I still do think she has something down the line.

I'm black and tell people I'm nothing but black  when asked but have An Asian Grandparent and a heavy upbringing in Japanese culture.
I honestly think she has a relative that's something other than black.
And I'm not just basing it off of hair  :dead:

But I get what you mean and thank God you're not one of the many ignorant people who do that kinda thing. Because at the end of the day it is wrong

but no shade
a lot of people see different things tbh
when I look at you, I see West African features, not East African..but that's ME
when you look at my uncles on my mothers side they look typical Hausa/Fulani, my boyfriend thought one of my uncles was mixed with Indian because his skin is browner and his curls are a but looser, to me? he looks like a black man :dead:
when I look at Malc' I see mixed race black, others look at him and say Sri Lanken DWDXWEQF
what you've been exposed to and where you grow up plays a large part, for the most part it doesn't mean anything
I grew up calling Ethiopians Somali's :dead: because I couldn't tell the damn difference, now I can tell the difference between a Ethopian, a Somali and someone from Sudan and Kenya
its perfectly logical that someone sees west africa when they look at me.
my father and BOTH of his parents are 100% african american, and they have 100% AA features. when i go down to Georgia my cousins and half brothers are always asking questions about my hair and mess. but that doesn't happen on my mother's side cuz i'm not the only one with my features.

it's normal to us. which is why i didn't understand what was going on when i went down south. I chocked it up to souther ignorance. I mean you have people down there talking about their great grandparent having light skin. :plzstop: so this must mean they're mixed or something. like.... :butim16robert:

but to come back up north and have people trying to speak spanish to me. i'm like OK maybe it just wasn't southern ignorance. it got to the point where i reached out to Baph in privacy a few weeks back to share my experience and ask some serious questions.

it turns out that its not just my hair people are looking at and saying "oh! curly hair! Dominican! Somali!" its my overall FEATURES. that are leading some people to believe this. bone structure, etc. then they mention my hair as a SECONDARY hint. that makes a lot more sense to me. Because Ive seen plenty of clearly AA people with light skin or curly hair and I never jumped to the conclusion they're mixed or even not 100% AA. :plzstop: thats ignorant as fuck to me. and backwards.

For me, black is so diverse... different features and skin-tones.
You do look black, but if you said you were Dominican, I would believe that. But I don't automatically think someone is mixed with something, cause black features are so diverse IMO.
Dominicans are Black, ultimately. They are African and just happen to have  heritage from the Iberian Peninsula (Spain) and a bit of Native American from Taino Indians who originally inhabited the islands. Because of the island's history.

But I have no documented evidence to support a relation to this country.

I do however have solid DOCUMENTED evidence to prove familial DeBerry/Dumas family ties to Puerto Rico.

https://www.geni.com/people/Henry-DeBerry/6000000000074468716

http://www.mytrees.com/ancestry-family/ry000247-197-2897/Sarah-Dumas-Born-1770-in-North%20Carolina.html

But PR's and Dominicans have the same racial admixture. LOL They both are of Black, Spanish and Native descent. PR's are more "mixed" though. With higher levels of European and Indian, whereas Dominicans can have higher levels of African. Which leads to their darker skin.

I honestly think that's why many people confuse me for a Dominican, when I really am an African American with ties to PR generations back. It just proves that no matter how much they try to run from or deny it, Dominicans really are Black. :plzstop: I'm 81% African and am passing as one of them. I can guarantee you that no one would ever assume I am PR though. No one has everrrrr said "you look Puerto Rican". :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:

It's no secret when you see someone with curly / silkier hair the automatic thought w/ most people Is that that person is mixed with something. Especially in America and with our history. That's what MOST ignorant people do! It's annoying but it's true.

If that's what he says his life is then it isn't that hard to fathom .
Look at his hair.

I mean

100% agree. Very annoying and ignorant....and that's them. But you shouldn't take the word of a couple ignorant people and RUN with it. As far as to start saying you're "passing."

That's true .
But I don't think he was saying he can pass for Dominican like he's trying to claim it

I think it was moreso that the comments made him want to look further into his Ancestry

Yeah I hope it was just poor choice of words. I just don't want him to walk around with that mentality and potentially say that to a dominican person who would clearly be able to tell that he's not. Dominicans are VERY proud and it wouldn't be a good look.

Oh waiiii'

Didn't you say you were mixed with some kinda 'ican :young:

Yeah my mother and that side of the family is Dominican. That's how I know no actual Dominican person is walking up to him saying that.

And it's nothing against you Afro. I'm actually trying to help you. If people are really saying that to you, don't run with it like that. It's a really offensive comment to make.
