And because he kept taking hit after hit, I felt patronizing and almost like a bully so I could not go full force, because he barely clapped back craftily enough for my responses to be motivated.

So what I get from all this is, Afro was unhappy with himself and decided to make changes to better things. As a result, he's been receiving more compliments and attention than he may have previously. So naturally he's excited and wants to share because it's new and fun and that's where the recent behavior comes from. I don't see anything wrong with this and I doubt there would have been as many issues if he hadn't tried to carry it as some "another day in the life! not new to this, true to this!" kinda thing lol
