Nah, my mother let me walk my own path once we began to get along. I don't know her helper in creating me lolz.

She does just push for me to be a good person and to achieve SOMETHING.
This is reasonable at least, all parents should want their children to achieve something but not to the point of being overbearing.

Do you stay home? They're gonna do that until you're on your own

Pretty much until they don't give you cash. Even then they're going to give you their input because 'they created you'

But your dad sounds like he's trying to live through you or something bvvv

Why can't you do what you want? The Fck is Obama have to do with your life
fffff omg I was waiting for you  :stressed:

Yeah I live at home right now, looking to move out again soon tbh

Its so fckin weird, he's always going about Obama and Mark Zuckerberg's recent trip to Nigeria. I'm like I don't give a FUCK, damn :uhh:
:dead: :dead: :dead: :dead:

I understand how that is.

My dad isn't very engulfed in his own culture anymore, but he used to expect me to live the way he did.

Kenya! Vegetarian! College! Money! Wife! Job!

:kii: :kii: :kii:

He didn't understand the term 'hypocrite' or something, but I didn't say much when I was younger cause he was paying my rent while I moved away to another city  :mmyulost:

But seriously. Do what you want. Because next thing you know you'll be 30 and realize you spent your youth trying to please others. I was fortunate enough to escape my parents GRASP and influence at about 22 but everyone isn't so lucky. For those who have overbearing and heavily involved parents that is.

Do wtf you want. They live their life how they want. You deserve the same.
Ugh yeah that's my biggest fear tbh, I don't wanna wake up one day with some ugly bitch I married to please my parents

:gorlonfire: :gorlonfire: :gorlonfire: :gorlonfire: :gorlonfire:

As soon as I finish uni, I'm cutting ALL financial ties. Fuck living life for someone else.

I understand why you feel like he's running your life. Many African parents do that intuitively. But personally, I've always loved going back to my homeland (C?te d'Ivoire). It gives me a sense of belonging and allows me to remember my people and culture. Maybe that's what he wants for you. But it has to come from within though. Are you of Ibo descent?

Vonc2002

Oh I'm just reading ur story. I have an African friend and he said  his father treats him the same way. And this nigga is like 28, so im like :uhh:
I think some of this is cultural because Americans are more adamant about being independent and u have those other ethnicities that really follow that don't talk back to parents, let them guide u sorta thing. I left my parent's house when i was 16 and a junior in high school tbh. Ive always been one to speak my mind. I just couldn't imagine sitting in silence while my parent's ramble on about some shit im just not gonna do
This is my pass to say WHATEVER tf I wanna say about the mess she releases so I don't wanna hear SHIT! Baby mama is a mess of a song btw

Yeah I want to go back, but not for my dad's reasonings. I miss it a lot but I'm not about to go after so long and stay there for a year.

No, I'm Yoruba.

The Yorubas go to England, and the Igbos to the States, it is really funny.
