I understand why you feel like he's running your life. Many African parents do that intuitively. But personally, I've always loved going back to my homeland (C?te d'Ivoire). It gives me a sense of belonging and allows me to remember my people and culture. Maybe that's what he wants for you. But it has to come from within though. Are you of Ibo descent?

I think some of this is cultural because Americans are more adamant about being independent and u have those other ethnicities that really follow that don't talk back to parents, let them guide u sorta thing. Yeah I want to go back, but not for my dad's reasonings. I miss it a lot but I'm not about to go after so long and stay there for a year.
