Ashanti is a classic case of being a filler artist, Aaliyah had died and Brandy was pregnant... Beyonc? had not become a solo star yet and for that summer of 2002 Ashanti filled the perfect gap and used to that to her advantage, once real compition came, she would fade into obscurity again.

I believe they gave Lil Mama a lot of big features and opportunities simply because there were no other female rappers, I do however think she is talented, but for some reason, she could never get it back and nowadays

Trey Songz only slayed when Chris Brown was tumbling and a new gap opened for him to shine. If he was truly capable and talented in his own right, he'd be a superstar in his own right by now.

The Austin Mahone girl only gained steam when Justin was in trouble for stuff.

I thought of her but she maintained even though Iggy, Azealia, Dej, Diamond and others tried to come up, she has proven herself.

I'm not too sold on this "gap artist" theory. And I think Trey's boost had more to do with his image being revamped than Chris Brown.

!

And where did this phrase come from, malc? The crack of your ass? :usureuok:

Opposites Attract.

I definitely don't see Ashanti as a gap artist. There were so many other artists out during that time.

It's unconditional, these days you know....

I dont see Ashanti as a "gap artist" but those 15mins ran tf out QUICK
This is my pass to say WHATEVER tf I wanna say about the mess she releases so I don't wanna hear SHIT! Baby mama is a mess of a song btw

Opposites Attract.

In Ashanti's defense once Murder Inc, started getting indicted and she didn't distance herself that was kinda the downfall of her success.

Ashanti ain't no gap artist. She actually has platinum albums.

I think someone like Tory Lanez is a "gap artist".

Neither of those events made her debut open with over 500k the very first week  :uhh: No shade THEY weren't even doing that. She would've slayed regardless

Ashanti's career was just short lived.
It's only when you look back at it, that you realize just how SHORT her reign was
:uhh:
3 calendar years.
2002-2004.
