In addition to the reasons why I think that won't work in their favor, that wasn't the deal. They said the reason why they did the gofundme mess was to ensure to give the fans what they wanted without higher ups getting involved. I mean if I invest in something, I would want to check in regularly to see how it's progressing and what not.
