Actually the time period was based on WWI, not WWII, even though WWII was the original time period WW debuted. Trench coats and chemical warfare. They did that because WWII is overused, so good on Patty Jenkins in part for that.

the main villain is Ares, uncultured 
and the mysterious woman is probably another amazon. In the comics and tv shows I think it was her sister. Not sure in this case. But they have powers too, so spectacle will be there, you can count on that

Lmaoo y'all don't know anything about WW. The male commander could either be Ares or the Duke of Deception. They havent said for sure. The female villain is Dr. Poison.
