All you have to do is watch even one debate to see how 9/11 affected this whole country. Foreign policy, immigration, government surveillance....all of those things have been pushed to the forefront of every political campaign since 9/11. Much more than before. That impacts everything. Whether you realize or understand how it all trickles down to you personally is another story.

Russia calls for full restoration of ties with US

(CNN) Republican candidate Donald Trump's ascension to the White House has sent shock waves around the world. But it appears to have pleased one leader in particular -- Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Within hours of Trump's victory speech, Putin congratulated the president-elect and flagged Moscow's willingness to restore ties fully with its old Cold War foe, currently at loggerheads over the Syria conflict.

Russia featured heavily in a heated campaign period, with Trump praising Putin as a firm leader as US officials accused Moscow of meddling by leaking hacked Democratic campaign emails to undermine Hillary Clinton's candidacy.
