I mean sites like Atlanta Black Star give you an abundance of information and it's easily accessible. Going to the library looking up old ass books takes that much more time from you, from making money as well. I think reading is great but physical books just aren't adequate in today's time like that.
I disagree and you're missing the point. I'm not referring to people who just want a "For Dummies"/summary type of books. I'm speaking in general. People don't read period. And FYI, there's nothing like having a your favorite book in your hands. Many avid readers would attest to this. I prefer to read books that way over a Kindle book.
I see where you are getting at. I think it's a generational thing. My mother was addicted to books and we have lots and lots of them at home. But for me having grown up with fast paced anime series, video games, MTV and everything it is honestly hard to see the value and take the time for something like a novel. I genuinely feel like fictional books like any hobby or recreational activity aren't compatible with many hectic lifestyles of today. But I do think people with language deficits or in anybody really can probably benefit a whole lot from
actually reading books and taking that time.
People with language deficits are not the only ones who benefit from reading literature; everyone does.
If more people read novels or short stories, there would be less ignorance in the world, and a greater understanding of the way people think and feel and live. This is something that TV and film sometimes fail to capture: the truth.
We are vulnerable in the face of media, which is often politicized and manipulated by groups in power, but literature is unadulterated. Why do you think so many books are banned from schools or from being sold in certain countries? It's one of the purest forms of art. When I write, I'm putting every single thought in my head onto the page for someone else to read, challenge, be affected by. It's very rare, in this day and age, to get that kind of direct access.
It's also extremely important. Fiction gives mobility to people; it gives them the ability go where they may not be able to go or travel to places they have never seen. I encourage you to at least give the novel a chance every once in a while.
