Everyone is an artist as long as they have some kind of control over their music.
Brandy barely writes, but her voice and ability to transform a song is amazing, Aaliyah barely wrote, but her ear for production, the way she knew exactly how she wanted to be seen and the way she recorded her music was also amazing.
You don't have to arrange, produce and write all your music like Prince to be considered an artist lol

Yea, that's stupid. Since when did writing a sing become the staple of being an artist. There's alot that goes into being an artist. Even down to your image and how u want to be perceived and branded.  Madonna aint some great musician but that bitch is a BRAND.

I was gonna say this.  Mariah's level of artistry took a huge nose dive after she left him.  It was KINDA intact for butterfly but after that it was COMPLETE shit. That Rainbow and glitter mess was UGH! she kinda got it back together when she did emancipation of mimi but i think that's cause she started working with new people. Mariah is a bit EVERYWHERE and is a complete mess now tbh. She's only good when she has someone good pulling the strings. When she's more in control or has a shitty team it's SO evident
