Saying non-whites are ethnic marks them as being someone different, altering from "regular" people who do not have a label. A Chinese woman is not anymore "ethnic" than a Swedish woman. Using the term ethnic as synonym for non-whites perpetuates this binary between whites who are the default and all other people who are ethnically marked.

if they never had a commercial or any advertising appealing to the4b/4c hair type, then i'd fume. But Shea Moisture has built their base off of being for that demo. This commercial serves its purpose to pretty much say "hey we are known for this. but we also offer this..."

nothing wrong here. this is an example of "not everything should be a black white issue". That's why they're closing image is of all colors and hair types. This is just a branch off their tree.
