JoJo Calls Out Former Label for Missing Music From Spotify: 'I Have No Control Over What They Do'

If you've noticed that JoJo's self-titled debut album is no longer available for all the streams you want on Spotify, you're not alone. After a fan went to the streaming service looking to blast hits like "Leave (Get Out)" and "Baby It's You," they couldn't help asking the singer why JoJo wasn't there -- and JoJo herself set the record straight.

"My former label removed my music, I unfortunately have absolutely no control over what they do or don't do," JoJo tweeted Sunday night (April 23).

JoJo's initial response triggered a slew of responses from other fans, with one asking if she thinks she'll ever get the rights to her music again. "Somehow? Probably. Is that my focus right now? No," she wrote. "I want to let bygones be bygones. I pray one day they put my music back up."

The previous label holding JoJo's music is Blackground Records -- the same company behind the digital disappearance of Aaliyah's discography -- with which the singer has fought a contract battle that didn't allow her to sell her own material. Although a loophole allowed her to sign with Atlantic Records in 2014, there's clearly still traces of the dispute, and it seems even JoJo isn't sure when she'll be able to have control over her debut record.

JoJo isn't available on iTunes either, but is still streamable on Apple Music. Billboard has reached out to JoJo's team and Spotify for comment. See her tweets below.

So glad Toni only did one album with them. Sheesh.

🦚

I don't understand what their fucking problem is. They need to add this and Aaliyah's discography.

Her issues are draining

And her last album was weak.. I'm disappointed in what she gave ... to have gone through so much.. you would think her music would've been more heartfelt and personal

She's done-a!

This mess (first two albums) ain't on Apple Music either, for me. I noticed like a couple months ago, and haven't seen it on Apple Music since...

It was heartfelt and personal but she was lead writer on most of those song
and we dont know what the recording budget was
she had some nice songs for what it was
but I miss the machine behind her
