my mother made it her business to teach me and all of my siblings about black history and the black experience.
She taught me what they wouldnt teach in schools..
she also made me read this really thick black history book..
i guess every household is different but my mom wasnt having it.

Yeah I don't know if "most black parents" was the correct wording for that lol

it may not have been
but i guess what I'm trying to say is...
there isn't this big school lesson every day about being black
we EXPERIENCE it every day
and from there our parents talk about those events, situations, etc.
at least in my experience -- i clearly can't speak for everyone

Also, you have to understand... my family grew up in a culture where it was black and Indians
they didn't experience the America (black/white) type of foolery until they came here in their 20s

Did you grow up, up North?
Or in the South?

Ok, there's something to that
My cousin moved there... and I've noticed that since he did... his outlook on black/white has change drastically... in the sense of he's more heightened to it and don't like white people like that anymore...

Ralf there's no need to leave it alone. It's kind of interesting to hear about the experiences of others. I don't think you're being disrespected, I just think alot of us had a different experience.

I'm not sure how it is growing up in the north or the West

But in Florida they (non blacks) make sure you know you're black so I find self pride is a common theme here
