my mother made it her business to teach me and all of my siblings about black history and the black experience.
She taught me what they wouldnt teach in schools..
she also made me read this really thick black history book..
i guess every household is different but my mom wasnt having it.

Why expect more from them than you would of actual black parents. It's plenty of coons, raised by blacks, that don't know shit about black history.

I was about to say.

Outside of the recent mess with policeman black parents don't and haven't been teaching their kids about being black in america. Black kids are simply exposed to other black kids.

Y'all gotta stop these blanket statements. Just say your parents (and those of your surroundings) didn't teach you.

It isn't a blanket statement. Now shut the fck up.

I think it depends on your surroundings.
If your a first generation citizen like myself, then your parents are more likely to teach your black history and ancestry, but if your not and your grandparents and those before were settled already and assimilated then I can see why most parents would skip the black history lessons.
My father made sure he schooled ALL his children on our linage and history
In the UK, most black people are first citizen born from African or Carribean parents (Africans more than Carribeans)

I'm first generation as well.
But I'm in America.
I didn't know you were from the U.K.
There may be a difference there.

I feel like I rarely see blacks gay or straight adopting kids

Ive always wondered why.

I cant think of any black celebs with adopted kids

Niggers don't really adopt, no shade.
