i do this from time to time.
I usually don't carry much cash on me so I when I see someone asking for change I'll ask them if they want food instead and I'll pop in somewhere and buy them something.

One time the guy disappeared after I went into Starbucks so I drove around the block a few times before I found him.

I see these moments as opportunities, not inconveniences.

Homeless people ask me for money all the time...but I tend to not carry cash so I usually don't offer anything. I told this one man I had nothing once.  He yelled "with your gay ass!" Or "fag" or something like that.  Then I told him that's why he's broke now as he walked away.

Most of them I come across seem to be genuine and nice though, but then you have ones that get pushy  which I can kinda understand because of their situation but...
