Nicki Minaj?s 38-year-old brother is currently on trial for repeatedly raping and sodomizing a 12-year-old girl for eight months. Jelani Maraj was arrested and charged with felony predatory sexual assault in December 2015 and was released on $100,000 bail after Nicki reportedly put up her two Long Island homes ? occupied by her mother and Maraj respectively? as collateral to make sure her big brother stayed a free man pending trial. As a matter of fact, soon after Maraj was bailed out, Nicki and the family went bowling.
Before the trial, Maraj was given two plea deals that would?ve seen him serving 15 years in prison instead of the life behind bars he?s facing now. One of those plea deals was offered after DNA results came back a match to semen found on the victim?s pants. Maraj rejected both and decided to take his chances in court.
With the trial beginning next month, more horrific details about Maraj?s alleged sexual abuse are starting to trickle out. The victim reportedly told Nassau Assistant District Attorney Emma Slane that she was afraid of Maraj and that he would often threaten her with anal rape if she didn?t follow his commands. ?If she resisted in any way, he would threaten to engage in anal intercourse with her, which she said would hurt her,? Bossip reports ADA Slane saying in a recent court hearing. The victim was also struck by Maraj many times to the point of tears, according to the ADA.
Naturally, Maraj maintains his innocence as his lawyer shamelessly tries to paint the 12-year-old girl as a grown ass woman with a body count. Criminal defense attorney David Schwartz claims the pre-teen was already sexually active and having sex with other men. Schwartz even wants the judge to order the victim to disclose her ?sexual history? to the court. Yeah, ?sexual history.? Not ?list of predatory men who sexually abused her,? but ?sexual history.?

All this sounds like the kind of story TMZ, known for salacious celebrity entertainment news and putting A-listers on blast would pounce on, but coincidentally, Harvey Levin and his merry band of The World?s Worst haven?t. In fact, aside from the initial story of Nicki Minaj?s brother being arrested for child rape and making bail, TMZ has seemingly stayed quiet on the case. Not even Buzzfeed is touching this one. Same for the other mainstream media publications that would usually jump on this kind of story. After all, Nicki Minaj is an A-list celebrity whose every move gets turned into a headline.

In a story first reported by Bossip, court papers alleged Jelani Maraj was raping his 12-year-old victim up until one day before he was arrested and charged. That story never made it to the newswires because it was also the day Nicki Minaj sparked engagement rumors by posting pictures of the iceberg Meek Mill copped her for her birthday.

After a month of deliberation, a jury decides there damn sure is enough evidence present to indict Jelani Maraj on child rape charges. Two days later, Maraj returns to court and pleads not guilty at his arraignment. As luck would have it, Nicki Minaj is named one of TIME Magazine?s Most Influential People, thus overshadowing her brother?s latest case development.
