I agree. I feel like that's giving someone too much to be that extra. I wouldnt give someone the satisfaction tbh. I just know how i am and i know people at my job have hated me because of those very reasons, so i know u can be perceived as a bitch/mean person. I didn't do shit but not speak. I don't really do pleasantries n shit if i dont wanna fck with u. Like I'll walk right by u.  At work tho, people do that fake shit. So when I didn't do the obligatory greetings n shit alot of people thought i was stuck up, an asshole, etc.
