A sub-set of Afrocentrists who particularly obsess over Ancient Egypt and believe in the largely discredited, pseudohistorical/pseudoarchaeological, so-called "Black Egypt hypothesis". Hoteps are noted for appropriating Ancient Egyptian symbols and words such as Ankhs or the word "Hotep" itself, giving themselves pseudo-Egyptian names, and claiming that modern Egyptians are just "thieving Arabs", somehow in league with Whites to 'steal their history'.

Other hallmarks of the Hotep identity are claiming that all Blacks are descended from Ancient Egyptian royalty (Giving rise to the "We wuz kangz" meme.), and an over reliance on Ancient Egyptian -based photoshopped images. Some of the more extreme Hoteps even go so far as to claim that the Black "Ancient Egyptians" had various superpowers, had traveled in space, and/or were themselves descended from beings from another planet.

Although being based in obsession with Ancient Egypt, Hoteps frequently overlap with other kinds of Afrocentrists, and it is not uncommon to see Hoteps also claiming that other peoples, such as the Native Americans (Especially Olmecs.), Berbers, Indians, or Melanesians were originally Black Africans or of Black African descent.


Black men who are only concerned about matters of social justice when it comes to black men and have little or no regard for the health and well-being of other members of the black race unless those people can serve to uphold their misogynistic societal ideas.

Hoteps are bitter black men who are somewhat progressive though undereducated on issues of racial prejudice and use pro-black rhetoric to support ideas that are clearly not in the best interest of all black people.

These men are typically misogynists who display a particularly high level of disrespect for the thoughts, bodies and experiences of black women, black homosexuals and black children. These men regularly espouse anti-intellectual and anti-scientific beliefs about nutrition, women's menstrual cycles and child development on social media.

Blacks in the US and surrounding islands have a much different history that was hidden from us for a reason.
