QuoteVatican police broke up a drug-fueled gay orgy at the residence of a secretary to one of Pope Francis' key advisers, according to an Italian newspaper.

The apartment sat close to the city and belonged to the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the congregation designated to tackling clerical sexual abuse.

The newspaper, il Fatto Quotidiano, claims the flat was allegedly home to Cardinal Francesco Coccopalmerio, an aid to the 80-year-old Pope.

Police first raided the apartment in June following complaints from neighbors about frequent visitors to the residence who were engaging in peculiar activity, the local outlet goes on to report.

After cops gained access inside the apartment, they were shocked to discover men getting high and having sex.

The top priest was arrested, presumably on drugs charges, as gay sex is legal in Vatican City, NY Daily News reports.

After, he was shipped off to a spiritual retreat in Italy.

Prior to the incident, Coccopalmiero recommended his secretary for a promotion to bishop.

It is less likely the church will follow through with his advancement after Coccopalmiero's arrest, however, and two previous alleged drug overdoses, according to an International Business Times report.

It hasn't been a great couple of weeks for the Catholic Church. Cardinal George Pell was just charged in a sex abuse scandal last week.

they really just have to let these priests go.
