You have to understand that this is Rumer's first time ever doing anything like this, including singing in front of a crowd. She's always been a singer but she's never done it in front of an audience. When it comes to Broadway, nerves does get in the way at times. Trust me, I've done stage performances where the first time you're doing it in front of an audience, it's very intimidating. Especially musical theatre and dark comedies. Brandy has been on stage for well over 20+ years so it's nothing new to her. But as for Rumer, this is her first time ever doing something of this nature outside of DWTS ever. She's a trained dancer but has never done anything of this nature. I've been doing theatre for over 20+ years myself, and every time I do a new role for the first time, it's intimidating. Plus, she hasn't been rehearsing for long either. She just started full out rehearsals two weeks ago.
i wasn't comparing her to Brandy

If she isn't ready to have some sort of energy (you can't teach some of these things) then she shouldn't have gotten the role

N

This is BROADWAY not community theatre, Hun. (Which I still respect) so no she doesn't get a pass here. This was God awful

She didn't sound bad, but Roxie isn't emo with no personality lol

It's Good Morning America. It's not like it's opening night and even then it still can go a certain way. It's the way it is in Broadway, I've seen a number of Broadway shows where opening night can be off. Plus, I have a number of theatre professors who have performed on Broadway and have explained all of this many times. This is pretty normal. Hell, you should've seen Cinderella's opening night. You would've been critiquing Ne Ne's ass too. Lots of Broadway performers go through this. It's normal. It takes time to get into a certain character. Especially if you've been only rehearsing for two weeks.

And FYI, the only difference between Off-Broadway and Broadway shows is the financial backing. That's all. Other than that there's a lot of similarities. Both still have a director, producer, creative director/artistic director, music supervisor (for Musicals), etc. Broadway has investors whereas Off-Broadway and Off-Off Broadway normally does community fundraising, etc. That's the only difference between the two.

in terms of what i expect from someone GIVEN a Broadway role, IMO it was. Sorry.  I'm sure she'll improve

There's nowhere to go but up at this point. I wish her the best, though. I'm sure she's a sweet girl n things

pretty girl though. the producers were horrified with her performance and scared she wouldn't
learn anything in time, so at least she knows the words
Actually, that was a rumor. I know a number of people who are involved behind the scenes of "Chicago" including the stage managers for Rumer's run which doesn't open until later this month. She did actually have an injury that she sustained during rehearsals.

But This was her Opening Night The other day...

No that's preview, not opening night. Previews are a special run where only a select number of tickets are sold. It doesn't open until I think the 8th or 15th. She's doing previews right now which is standard for most Broadway shows that start in the Fall.

LMAO "Oh in the know"
I am in the know. I get tickets to shows all the time due to being involved with a number of Off-Broadway theatre companies. I've been doing this for 27 years.
