QuoteGirls Trip? Drives Past $100 Mark At US Box Office / Does Big Business Abroad Too

QuoteThe comedy, which follows four friends as they attend the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans, bucked the trend of lukewarm returns for funny films in the summer.

Instead, it?s become one of the most successful efforts from producer Will Packer.

Full story on its landmark achievement below?

As of this week, ?Girls Trip? has crossed the $100 million mark at the US box office.

In doing so, the flick ? which stars Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah, and Tiffany Haddish ?  becomes Packer?s third offering to exceed $100 million at the domestic box office. His other titles to earn this honor are ?Ride Along? and?Straight Outta Compton.?

More broadly, it?s the first comedy this year to hit this milestone.

The slay isn?t limited to US shores either. ?Girls Trip? is scorching abroad too.

It has already made $7.4 million in the UK and seems poised to outperform ?Get Out? ? another sleeper hit that ended its run in the region at $12.7 million.

The comedy also rocked South Africa, topping the box office for two weekends consecutively.

In having a staggered release internationally, the film will be released in Australia and Romania on August 31st, with roll-out continuing in other markets through to November.

According to Deadline, Universal insiders say that knew they had something special when at an early test screening. The audience were reportedly laughing so hard and continuous, folk couldn?t hear all the jokes.

**********

This slay brings us genuine joy, especially the deeper meaning attached.

Sure the film has mass appeal, but there?s no distracting from the fact that it?s managed to achieve all of this anchored by an all Afro-American cast. A female Afro-American cast at that.

In an ideal world, one shouldn?t have to highlight this as a great movie should simply be just that ? a great movie.

But the reality is that it?s still rare for such productions to ever the see the light on such a huge scale.

Hopefully, successes like this help drive home to Hollywood that embracing diversity can still yield them dollars.
Im so happy for these bitches :stressed:
