yummy

the gotcha is...unemployment rates in our communities haven't budged since the late sixties. and this was before these 'hood' names even came into existence.

racist hiring practices go far beyond a name.

My name is African though I'm african american.

It's Unawndi (you-non-dee) last name Teal. I love my name. Never had any issues with it except when Jumanji came out in grade school. The kids had a field day.

@ Afro I agree.

I use to love my friends names Tyniquah and Jakeem. So edgy and creative LMAO!
!!!!!!

I don't think we're taught to hate "black names".

Many of our friends and family had them.

There this was this guy down the block from me named Jahquail. I thought his name was so sexy.

If anything, I got more heat from black people for my name. A lot of heat.
My big sis was about to fight someone one day over it. :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop: :plzstop:

SO I cant really see this big "issue in our community" of not accepting ethnic names.

But this is just my personal experience.
DDDDDDDDD

I had a friend named Darius. Very simple name IMO but the white people at my job were like  :-o his name so black!!

After i called them crackers for having cookie cutter names, we had this discussion about names. But it's just funny how it looks completely different from the outside.
Yeah I guess Darius for us would be tame. I mean we're black, we know people with much more complex sounding names. I do see that for the most part white people keep it extremely simple. They'll go nuts over naming a bvy "Anna" or "Sue", as if its some new innovative mess.

I just think we're more creative, and it's the creativity that is misunderstood.
black people have always been more creative and entertaining

That's why the world imitates us

:flamebroiled:
!!!!

I don't think it's about the parents being ghetto or anything.

We just like to go above and beyond. :plzstop:

yummy

I love your name but I'm crying at this Jumanji mess

Miranda

I am mad to this day I have no Palestinian name, nor an Igbo name.

In the Arab world I just go with Malek, my third first name is Uzoma though.
