Disney Channel, ?Andi Mack? break ground with gay story line

Bravo to popular series for its coming-out arc and taking a step toward more inclusivity

Via a touching, compassionate and sensitively handled scene, the Disney Channel?s ?Andi Mack? made history Friday night with the network?s first story line about a gay character coming out.

In the Season 2 premiere of the tween-centric show, one of Andi?s friends ?13-year-old Cyrus Goodman (Joshua Rush) ? is struggling with the fact that he has a crush on another boy, Jonah Beck (Asher Angel).

One Million Moms calls on Disney to scrap the hit series ?immediately.?

?One might question why Disney Channel feels the need to pursue such programming,? the post reads. ?What is wrong with having family-friendly content that is acceptable for all ages or even leaving a couple of networks solely for children?s entertainment??

Noting that the move could ?ultimately prove to be a huge mistake,? officials argued that the channel ?may be choosing to sacrifice something far more precious? children?s innocence.?

The group asked its supporters to sign a petition calling for a boycott of Disney if ?Andi Mack? was not canceled ?immediately.? By Friday afternoon, the petition had received over 7,000 signatures.

I dunno, I just read a story about this young "gender fluid" Black boy who was killed because two guys mistook him for a female. Kedarie Johnson.

Once they got him to a room somewhere and began to dig and found surprising little treats they blacked out and killed him.

It made me think - maybe it isn't a horrible idea to at least take a lot of TIME to educate your kids on what the challenges are in being a trans person, or "gender fluid" person, etc. I felt bad because this is just a kid being ignorant - not realizing the consequences and danger of his action.

There were TWO men in that room with him. I doubt two Black guys who identified as hetero decided that they wanted to fuck a trans together. That's usually something they do solo and very hush hush if they're interested. So I believe they were fooled a bit by his appearance.

The story made me super sad because it's a child. I wonder if his parents really took the time to explain what danger he was in by making his decisions and giving him a real rundown of expectations.

What did he think was gonna happen once those two guys were ready to run their train but suddenly found out there were some speed bumps in the way?

Yeah its true that deconstructing ignorance starts from day one

Cause you know damn well a lot of these kids are just repeating what their parents say. The fag this tranny that is often learned from the parents if not their surroundings. This is def a step in the right direction.
