Quote from: XXX. on November 09, 2017, 01:51:54 PMThe abuse heightened Rihanna's celebrity and made her a household name. It was the hottest topic of that year before Michael Jackson died. I still remember Oprah talking to the camera and telling her, "He will hit you again!" I don't think she's ever gotten as much press as she did that year. She also was met with the best album reviews of her career while Chris was met with the lowest (he received a lot of 0-star reviews). 8 years later, Rated R is still her highest rated album on Metacritic. I don't think there were immediate commercial results or anything tangible to prove the abuse was a benefit to her career. But in the overall picture of her as an artist, it added a compelling component to her story that helped transition her from an it-girl to an artist with depth and a story. So, did it "help" her career? IDK. But it pushed her forward in the right direction and prevented a likely GGGB 2.0.

Most people hate her and being a domestic violence victim can do wonders for a career, just ask Rihanna.Domestic abuse did NOTHING for Rihanna's career It actually did ; no shadeIt actually didn't. She got alot of press from it but in no way did it catapult her somewhere or skyrocket her career. Not when the album prior to the incident sold more, had more hits, etc. What he more than implied was that incident made Rihanna "RIHANNA" and it most certainly did notI didn't imply that.I said what I said. That incident was press and people around the world learned who she was who may not have known who she was otherwise. I never said it started her career or that she didn't have one prior.

Not mother Theresa. That's kind of harder to do when someone's actually lost their life.Rihanna played off of it all because she was seen as the victim - and Tamar could do the same . The idea is that they're finding strength after being torn down. When you're already perceived as the villain of a situation you may not want to jump into dark clothes and start getting edgy.
Quote from: Vonc2002 on November 09, 2017, 01:58:22 PMOh wait, loud came before TTT? my bad LOLZ! BUT yea, my point stands. GGGB was her most successful era so she was already a name and the incident didn't make her
