ya rock muh world.

And some of the last words I'll say in here -

I didn't wake up one day and say to myself "I think I'm mixed with something! " It's people outside of myself who kept asking me, "Where are you from?" "What's your heritage?"

And it's not about sharing that to be cute or to think I'm all that. This is a regular experience for me. People try to figure me out sometimes. Someone at my job even admitted she was trying to "make sense" of the way I look by guessing where I was from before we became cool.

After a while, I think it's pretty reasonable that you begin asking yourself the questions that others are asking you.
My quest for answers has been far from perfect (as I am not a genealogist) but it's yielded solid results for me.

It turns out that I happen to actually come from a diverse family background.
I embrace that and own it. And celebrate it.

Labels and numbers and percentages are cool but it's the PEOPLE , my actual family - knowing them now and seeing them. That's what has given me fulfillment and explanations.

Now I feel as if I now can move on.

CHOKE

The Lilo and Stich era is cute

But my fave is when my sis was Creole

I connected more towards that one I think.

So would you ultimately claim African American, Haitian/Creole , Native American, and Poly?  Only because I?ve seen all those in your Sig at different points with pics of discovered relatives.
Are they all apart of your diverse background? Or were they apart of the mistakes you said you made during your search?

Simply African-American and Polynesian.
I'm not like some medley of ethnicities or anything.  :dead:

And yes the pics I had previously were all relatives. Another pattern you may have noticed before is that they were almost all from the 1800's, etc.  :dead: :dead:

Up until now I had yet to find LIVING relatives from this side of my family. Getting my grandmother tested is something I should have done LONGGGG ago.

I'm sure you've seen this pic a million times. LOL It is my grandma's grandma. This is her side of the family in my sig now.
My grandmother's actual DNA results are in my sig as well. It took a lot of guesswork out of the equation for me.

And I'm sorry but unless someone's actually been in a position where people question their ethnic identity, it may hard to understand why I was suddenly so passionate to find an answer. And relentless with it.

Drais was being a mess in here but some of what he said rang true. It does create an identity crisis of some sort. If I've always identified as Black, always saw Black when I looked in the mirror, why are people questioning that? What are they seeing that I don't see?

It actually makes sense that my grandmother's DNA is a bit "off" from the norm.

She has more Asian DNA than European DNA. That's just not normal for an African-American. African slaves had more contact with Europeans when they arrived here, and in SOME cases, Native Americans. And African American DNA usually reflects that - the results are usually African, some European due to the slave trade and maybe a DASH (1%) of Native, if that.

Not 10% Asian randomly thrown into the pot. :dead:

And even her 7% European component is in line with Polynesian genetics (Scandinavia).

sdsdsd

ultimately its interesting and fun to me.

just enjoying this little bit of "me" time i have left before it's crunch time once my teams completely done with the app in a couple weeks.

between working my normal job and getting that off the ground, i doubt i'll even have the luxury of time to breathe let alone celebrating heritage.

getting it in while I can. :stressed:
